Migrating Project Server 2013

From Microsoft Project Server 2013 to Microsoft Project Server 2019

First phased completed

One of our customers decide to migrate their Microsoft Project Server 2013 to Microsoft Project Server 2019. Not easy because business keep on running and we just cannot unplugg the platform for too long.

One day delay means thousands of dollars lost.

Microsoft Azure

All servers were deployed in Azure as IAAS and running 24x7. We had to coordinate with the IT team to validate new hardware requirements, software deployments, remote access for the business users and with the Ciber team to get 100% secure data migration.

Two phases, three different versions: 2013, 2016, 2019

We decided to structure the project in two phases. The Engineering area first and then, the rest of the areas. But, before migrating, we had to work on technical improvements:

we have to modify almost 1000 objects (VBA, events, controls, forms, interfaces with SAP, MAXIMO, mobile apps, API....), test them and get users validation.

This had to be done for Microsoft Project Server 2016 and 2019. We just cannot jump from 2013 to 2019. We need to navigate through 2016.

Once the testing went right, it was time to move the databases. SQL team detached and attached the diferent databases within two days.

Users are now working with the new platform , Microsoft Project Server 2019 and Project Professional 2019.

In the next moths, we will complete another migration.
